Select the type as an essay and enter the title.

Enter the instructions in the instruction field. You can add instructions to the students by text, image, link etc,..

The instructor can add total marks of the essay. You can add restrictions to the materials if necessary and assign it to a specific class (section) or all the classes.

Update the assignment submission duration by setting the start and end date. Click on the Publish button, the students can start their assignment on their scheduled date. The students can proceed to start typing in the essay using the in-built text editor. Or they can even upload a file if they have written the essay in a document or pdf file.

The essay can be viewed by a teacher or an instructor upon submission to review and allocate scores/marks and provide any additional comments.
